Unusual wedding readings | Notley Abbey

Having photographed well in excess of 700 weddings over the past 12 years, you’d be right in the assumption that I’ve heard a fair few wedding readings! You can therefore imagine my surprise when, during Mark & Kristian’s civil ceremony at Notley Abbey, their friend delivered a series of 9 words that I’d never heard before; well, never heard at the start of a wedding reading at least.

Once home to Hollywood darlings Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, it seemed rightly apposite to hear a theatrically presented piece at Notley Abbey, unusual in the conventional stakes, but wonderfully humorous in context. That’s really why I want to share it in this short diary film.

If you’re planning to hold your wedding celebrations at Notley Abbey and would like to discuss a documentary approach to photography, I’d love to hear from you via the contact form on the main menu. In addition, if you have an unusual wedding reading you’d like to share with others, please feel free to leave it in the comments box. For reference, the reading featured in this film is from ‘The Kindly Ones’ by Neil Gaiman.

Enjoyed the film? Then please do ‘subscribe’ to my blog by leaving your email address in the box below this post. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this Neale, and for your fantastic pictures!

Being a writer, I wanted our four readings to tell a real story. Not just of our relationship, but probably many.

This first reading was from 'The kindly ones' by Neil Gaiman, and describes the exhilarating and terrifying feeling that someone has got under your skin, and suddenly your armour has a chink in it.

If anyone is interested, the other readings are below:

'I Like You', by Sandol Stoddard

'Blue Eyed Devil', by Lisa Kleypas

'I Love You', by Roy Croft
