It’s the unexpected that makes this job exquisitely challenging. I turn my back for one moment and I just know that the real magic is about to happen behind me. Be ready to turn on your heels, as there’s a panto moment waiting to bite, always. No need to over commentate upon this gem, suffice to say the joy comes from a bride engaged in conversation and oblivious to a scene unfolding, whilst the groom finds entertainment in this unexpected instant. Looking a little further into the frame, it’s good to see differing interactions. The guest far left seems to be checking the groom’s response, whilst her partner is quietly surveying the scene. One of my privileged tasks is to return pictures that the bride or groom did not personally witness. This alone, makes the photograph a solid addition to a final collection of documentary wedding photographs.
