Having been recently described in a bridal magazine article as; ‘That chap who takes the really dark moody shots,’ I thought this wedding photograph was worth a posting. There’s no doubt that I take inspiration from the gritty monochromes practised by the likes of photographic greats Sally Mann and Robert Frank, though equally the ethereal look attracts my eye too. Geometrically the documentary wedding photograph above ticks a few boxes. The eyes lead from the reader diagonally down to the bride and groom. He also sits in the third and my only gripe when revisiting this image is that had I lowered my position, and shifted to the left slightly, I could have popped the registrar’s relaxed foot in an opposing third for a touch of the unusual. The brightness and hope of the composition comes through though, and that works.
